Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts
About
Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts on Fairview Road
Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts is a traditional Tae Kwon Do school at 800 Fairview Road in east Asheville, run by 9th Degree Black Belt Grandmaster Tony Morris. He actively teaches alongside an internationally certified instructor team and teen assistant instructors who came up through the school's own ranks. A 9th-dan is an extremely senior rank in any martial art and rare outside Korea, and the dojang's depth of instruction reflects that.
Kids Martial Arts Programs
The youth program is unusually broad, spanning preschool through teens:
- Dedicated preschool classes for ages 3 and up
- Kids classes through elementary and middle school
- Teen classes
- Award-Winning After School Program with structured curriculum and homework support
- Summer camps with themed weekly adventures, plus Kids Night Out events
What's Included
- Traditional WT/Olympic-style taekwondo - Taegeuk poomsae, full kicking range, one-step sparring, and controlled kyorugi
- Modern strength, conditioning, and flexibility training
- Instruction led by a 9th-dan grandmaster and internationally certified team
- Emphasis on confidence, leadership, discipline, and life skills
- Trial classes available for prospective students
Experience
Sparring is introduced only once students have the control to participate safely, and the dojang frames confidence, leadership, and life skills as core outcomes, not just kicks and forms. Families from across Asheville, Black Mountain, Fairview, Swannanoa, and the east Buncombe communities make Sun Soo their home dojang, drawn by the rare senior-rank instruction and wide preschool-to-teen pathway.
