Bill Taylor's Bushido School of Karate
About
Bushido School of Karate Since 1972
Bill Taylor's Bushido School of Karate is Murfreesboro's first and largest private martial arts facility, operating continuously since 1972 across two Murfreesboro locations (North on NW Broad and South on Business Campus Drive). Bill Taylor began studying Wado Ryu karate in 1973 under Newton Harris and built the school into a USEWRKD School of the Year recognized name across Middle Tennessee.
Kids Karate Programs
The school runs age-separated classes from preschool Kinder-Karate through teen and adult ranks, so kids always train with peers their own size and skill level. Programs include:
- Kinder-Karate (preschool introduction to karate basics, listening, balance)
- Kids Karate (elementary-age classes, full curriculum with belt-rank progression)
- Teen Karate (continued ranks for older students)
- Adult and Senior Karate (Wado Ryu curriculum for parents and grandparents)
- Free self-defense seminars and bullying prevention programs for the community
What's Included
- Over 50 years of continuous operating history in Murfreesboro
- Wado Ryu traditional karate curriculum (instructor's own lineage)
- USEWRKD School of the Year recognition
- Two Murfreesboro locations for schedule flexibility
- Community programs (free self-defense, bullying prevention)
Experience
The "kids train with kids" structure means a 7-year-old never gets stuck practicing technique against a 14-year-old. The 50-year tenure means most Murfreesboro karate instructors in town either trained at Bushido or studied under someone who did. Strong fit for families who want their child training in the school their parents might have attended.
