Boulder Karate
About
Boulder Karate, Voted #1 Since 1999
Boulder Karate sits on 30th Street in central Boulder, founded 1999 and voted Boulder's Best Martial Arts School nine times. The school is built around weekly semi-private coaching format, which gives students higher per-class instructor attention than the group-only model common in commercial dojos.
Kids Karate Programs
The school structures classes across four age tiers from preschool through adult, with belt-rank progression as the through-line. Programs include:
- Tiny Tigers, ages 4-7 (preschool and early-elementary intro to karate)
- Junior Ninjas, ages 8-12 (full kids karate curriculum with sparring)
- Teens, ages 13-16 (continued curriculum scaled to teen training intensity)
- Adults, ages 17+ (continued ranks for parents and older students)
- Semi-private weekly coaching format across all tiers

Experience
The semi-private coaching format is unusual in karate schools - most run group-only classes where instructor attention divides across 20-plus students at once. Nine consecutive Best-in-Boulder awards signal sustained community trust rather than a one-year spike. Pattern fits Boulder families that want their child getting real per-student coaching attention rather than group-class anonymity.
