About
Garden-Based Cooking and Sustainability Program for Homeschoolers
City Sprouts is an urban farm and education organization on Seward Street in north Omaha, running the Home Grown Kids program that combines weekly cooking with gardening, nutrition, and sustainability lessons for homeschooled kids.
Kids Programs
- Home Grown Kids - weekly low-cost program for homeschooled students ages 8-12
- 8-week sessions covering garden journaling, planting, pollinator education, bird observation, soil health, and hands-on cooking
- Family celebration at the program's end where families share dishes
- Growing Gardeners Workshop Series (free, all ages) with cooking-adjacent activities
What's Included
- Weekly Wednesday 10:30 AM to noon session
- All ingredients and tools at the urban farm site
- Hands-on garden-to-plate cooking instruction
- Low-cost program fee (homeschool-targeted pricing)
Experience
Farm-and-garden-first cooking education - kids harvest ingredients at the same site they cook them, learning the full from-soil arc. Best fit for homeschool families seeking a weekly Wednesday-morning rhythm rather than weekend cooking classes; the integrated curriculum across garden, science, and cooking is its differentiator.
