About

Community MusicWorks — Free Music Lessons for Providence West Side Kids

Community MusicWorks has spent nearly 30 years running a free instrument-lesson program for kids in Providence's West End, South Side, Elmwood, and Olneyville neighborhoods — the nonprofit just opened a new 24,000 sq ft center on Westminster Street in 2024 after decades in a small storefront. Kids not only get free weekly lessons but also free instruments to take home, concert trips, and a musical-leadership pipeline.

Free After-School Music Programming

Programming spans weekly lessons and community performance. Classes include:
- Free weekly instrument lessons (strings, piano, percussion)
- Monthly musical workshops
- Five Performance Parties per year
- Family concert trips with tickets
- Phase II leadership program for older students
- Music Lab, Fiddle Lab, and Music History Lab
- Ensemble performance opportunities

Experience

Kids from the neighborhoods with the thinnest music-education access get a real conservatory-quality music program that spans lessons through leadership. Best fit for West End, South Side, Elmwood, and Olneyville families who've been priced out of private lessons elsewhere, and for kids serious about sticking with an instrument for years.
