Delaware Judo & Ju-Jitsu Association
About
Delaware Judo & Ju-Jitsu Association at Brandywine Town Community Center
Delaware Judo & Ju-Jitsu Association (DJJA) is the dedicated Kodokan-style judo program serving Wilmington and northern Delaware, operating since 2007 out of the Brandywine Town Community Center at 4050 Brandywine Parkway in north Wilmington. The club teaches traditional Japanese judo as codified by Jigoro Kano - throws (nage-waza), groundwork (ne-waza), breakfalls (ukemi), and the bowing etiquette and respect (rei) that frame every session - alongside complementary Japanese ju-jitsu material at higher levels.
Kids Martial Arts Programs
The youth program is split into two age tiers with age-appropriate instruction:
- Children class (ages 6-11), Tuesday and Thursday 4:30-5:30 PM, learning disguised as games, varied-rhythm drills, and partner challenges
- Juniors class (ages 12-16), Tuesday and Thursday 5:15-6:30 PM, fuller technical syllabus
- Throw catalog: osoto-gari, ouchi-gari, seoi-nage, harai-goshi, tai-otoshi
- Ne-waza pins, escapes, and structured randori once basics are clean
What's Included

Experience
The community-center setting and low tuition make Kodokan judo accessible to families across Brandywine Hundred, Centerville, Greenville, Hockessin, and the broader north Wilmington area. Younger kids build real technical skill through games while juniors progress into the full throw catalog and structured randori.
