Delaware Judo & Ju-Jitsu Association
About
Delaware Judo & Ju-Jitsu Association (DJJA) is the dedicated Kodokan-style judo program serving the Wilmington and northern Delaware area, operating since 2007 out of the Brandywine Town Community Center at 4050 Brandywine Parkway in north Wilmington. The club's mission is to teach traditional Japanese judo as it was codified by Jigoro Kano - throws (nage-waza), groundwork (ne-waza), breakfalls (ukemi), and the bowing etiquette and respect (rei) that frame every session - alongside complementary Japanese ju-jitsu material at higher levels. The youth program is split into two age tiers with carefully developed, age-appropriate instruction: Children class runs Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 PM for ages 6-11 with a curriculum that disguises most of the learning as games, varied-rhythm drills, and partner challenges so kids stay engaged while building real technical skill, and the Juniors class runs the same days from 5:15 to 6:30 PM for ages 12-16 with a fuller technical syllabus including the standard throw catalog (osoto-gari, ouchi-gari, seoi-nage, harai-goshi, tai-otoshi), ne-waza pins, escapes, and structured randori once basics are clean. Monthly tuition for children is set at $85, which is unusually accessible for a community-based judo program. The Brandywine Community Center location is convenient for families across Brandywine Hundred, Centerville, Greenville, Hockessin, and the broader north Wilmington area. USA Judo / USJF rank certification is available through the standard kyu/dan ranks.
