Dojo's Family Martial Arts - Ankeny

Dojo's Family Martial Arts is Ankeny's American Kenpo karate dojo at 1810 SW Whitebirch Circle Suite 100, one of multiple Des Moines metro locations under the same family brand. The curriculum is rooted directly in Ed Parker's American Kenpo - the modern hybrid system developed by Senior Grandmaster Ed Parker in the second half of the 20th century, blending traditional Chinese martial arts principles with Western boxing and street-defensive application into a complete adult-and-kids self-defense karate. The school offers classes for ages 4 through adult and is unusually intentional about combining technical karate, real-world self-defense skills, and structured character-building lessons into a single weekly experience. Kids classes are scaled by age and belt level: younger students focus on motor skills, listening, and the simplest hand and foot basics; mid-grade kids work through the Kenpo basics, structured forms, and the patented "self-defense techniques" sequences that define the system; advanced kids work on Kenpo's distinctive close-range and counter-attack material along with controlled sparring. Belt progression follows the standard kyu/dan path through the Kenpo color-belt curriculum toward black belt. The Whitebirch Circle location runs Monday through Thursday 3:00-9:00 PM and Friday 4:00-6:30 PM, which is convenient for after-school and early-evening family schedules. Trial classes are available for prospective students.
