Irene C. Edmonds Youth Theatre
About
FAMU's Long-Running Youth Theatre Since 1997
The Irene C. Edmonds Youth Theatre (ICEYT) has been a creative force in Tallahassee children's theatre since 1997, housed within the FAMU Essential Theatre at Tucker Hall on the Florida A&M University campus.
ICE Youth Theatre Programs
Programming combines summer camp with seasonal productions for ages 7-16, often featuring original work like the recent hip hop musical Wrestling with Angels. Programs include:
- ICE Youth Theatre Camp (ages 7-16)
- Production opportunities at Charles Winter Wood Theatre
- Original musicals and contemporary works
- Year-round educational programming
- Partnership with FAMU Essential Theatre season
What's Included
- Tucker Hall venue at FAMU
- Performance venue at Charles Winter Wood Theatre
- HBCU campus setting (rare among kids' theatre programs)
- Director Irene C. Edmonds legacy programming since 1997
- Faculty drawn from FAMU theatre department
Experience
The HBCU campus setting offers cultural depth that most community youth theaters can't match. The original musical commissions (like Wrestling with Angels) give kids a real role in new work development rather than just rehearsing the standard Disney/Broadway Jr. canon.
