Lake Thunderbird State Park surrounds the 6,000-acre Lake Thunderbird - Oklahoma's metro Norman water reservoir. Two marinas, nine boat ramps, two swim beaches, playgrounds, hiking trails, and Discovery Cove Nature Center make it the family hub of Norman outdoor recreation.
What Kids Can Do
Discovery Cove Nature Center has live native reptile and amphibian displays plus hands-on environmental education exhibits. Two designated swim beaches with sandy areas, restrooms, and shaded picnic shelters. Equestrian trails, hiking paths, and ranger-led programs throughout the year. Three campgrounds for overnight stays. Fishing piers stocked with bass, crappie, and catfish [marked: swim beaches lifeguarded Memorial Day-Labor Day only - other seasons swim at own risk].
What's Included
Day-use $10 per vehicle (cash/exact at iron ranger). Discovery Cove Nature Center free with park entry, open Wed-Sun 10am-4pm. Camping and boat rentals priced separately.

Plan 3-6 hours depending on activity. Almost entirely outdoor. Bring swimsuits, sun protection, water. About 12 miles east of downtown Norman. Free on-site parking at multiple lots after day-use fee.
