Master Kim's World Taekwondo
About
Master Kim's World Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial arts academy at 7650 S McClintock Drive in south Tempe, serving families across Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, Ahwatukee, and Guadalupe. The head instructor, Grand Master Young Kim, holds an 8th Degree Black Belt directly certified by Kukkiwon (the World Taekwondo headquarters in Seoul) and brings more than 25 years of teaching experience to the dojang. His credentials are deep: Korean National J.B. team coach in 1995, NYS Demo team leader in 1996-1997, Physical Education Teaching Certification in Korea (1994), and an Official Master Tae Kwon Do Teaching License from the World Tae Kwon Do Federation. The kids taekwondo program follows the WT Olympic-style curriculum - basic stances and blocks, the Taegeuk poomsae forms, kicking combinations (front, roundhouse, side, axe, spinning, jumping), structured one-step sparring, and progressive controlled kyorugi sparring with proper protective gear once students have the control to participate safely. Beyond the technical syllabus, the program is built around the five tenets of taekwondo - courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, indomitable spirit - applied to how children handle setbacks at the dojang, at school, and in family life. Younger groups focus on listening, motor control, and confidence; older kids and teens add conditioning, kicking precision, and the patience to memorize increasingly long poomsae. Family classes also let parents train alongside kids. Free trial classes are available.
