About

Mahamed Aly's BJJ Academy in Alexandria

One Way Martial Arts sits on Eisenhower Avenue in west Alexandria, co-founded by 4-time IBJJF World Champion and 4-time European Open Champion Mahamed Aly alongside BJJ black belt Patrick Almeida. After 14 years competing and teaching internationally, Aly chose Alexandria for his own academy, bringing world-class competition pedigree to the DMV market.

Kids Jiu Jitsu Programs

The kids curriculum splits into four age-tight tiers, starting earlier than most academies (age 2) and progressing through the teen years. Programs include:
- Tumblers BJJ, ages 2-3 (intro movement, listening, partner play)
- Tots BJJ, ages 4-6 (foundational positions and grappling games)
- Kids BJJ, ages 7-10 (full curriculum with technique, escapes, and supervised rolling)
- Teens BJJ, ages 11-14 (adult-tempo training scaled to teen sparring)
- Adult BJJ (Mahamed Aly head instruction)

What's Included

  • Direct instruction from world-class competitors (Aly and Almeida)
  • Pathway from age 2 through adult on one mat
  • Community-and-partnership philosophy in training, explicit gym ethos

Experience

The academy is built around technical BJJ rather than mixed-MA, so kids who stick around build deep technique under championship-caliber coaching rather than rotating through styles. The community and atmosphere are emphasized as much as the technique. Aly framed the new gym as "my own location and students" after over a decade traveling. A serious option for Alexandria families who want their child trained by an active world-class BJJ competitor.
