292-Acre Nature Preserve With Environmental Education Center

Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve is a 292-acre nature preserve managed by NY State DEC in Depew, just east of Buffalo. Originally the private estate of Dr. Victor Reinstein, donated 1988 for public conservation. Old-growth forest, ponds, and wetlands plus an Environmental Education Center.

What Kids Can Do

The Environmental Education Center has hands-on exhibits on local wildlife, plus live amphibian and reptile displays. Three miles of trails wind through old-growth forest past 15 ponds - kids spot great blue herons, beavers, otters, and frogs. Naturalist-led family hikes and Junior Naturalist programs scheduled weekly. Free educational programs throughout the year for school groups [marked: trail open dawn-dusk daily - Education Center M-F 9-4:30 plus Sat 1-4:30 only].
