Century-Old Playhouse with AKT Youth Academy

Sierra Madre Playhouse marks 100 years of performing arts in the San Gabriel foothills, and runs the AKT Academy - a youth training program serving students ages 10 through high school in acting, musical theatre, and devised comedy.

AKT Academy Programs

Summer sessions split into morning and afternoon tracks plus a year-round musical theatre option. Programs include:
- Summer Session 1 Morning: Frumpled Fairy Tales & Fractured Fables (ages 10-15)
- Summer Session 1 Afternoon: Theater Games and Improv Techniques (ages 10-15)
- Summer Session 2: Writing & Comedy Workshop
- Year-Round Youth Onstage Musical Theater (Tuesdays 4-6pm)
- Off-site rehearsal space at 123 E Montecito Avenue

What's Included

• Classes capped at 15 students for instructor attention
• Singing, movement, and drama integrated for musical theatre track

Experience

The small class cap is the differentiator - 15-student max means each kid gets actual coaching time rather than waiting in a 30-kid line. The 100-year-old playhouse setting adds an unusual sense of theatrical history to a youth program.
