Talcott Mountain State Park
About
574-Acre Park With 165-Foot Heublein Tower
Talcott Mountain State Park covers 574 acres on Talcott Mountain west of Hartford - the signature feature is the 165-foot Heublein Tower, an early 20th-century private home and tower with sweeping views of the Farmington Valley.
What Kids Can Do
The 1.25-mile Tower Trail climbs to Heublein Tower at the summit - moderate hike with rewards of 4-state panoramic views from the tower deck. Tower museum (Memorial Day-October 31, Fri-Mon 10am-4pm) shows early 1900s mansion life and lookout-tower history. Bald eagle and turkey vulture viewing from the summit during hawk migration (September-October peak). Picnic areas at multiple trail elevations [marked: Tower Trail strenuous final 200 yards - rest stops along the way].
