Visual Arts Center of Richmond
About
Richmond's largest community art center runs an extensive youth program inside its 30,000-square-foot facility on West Main, with 17 professional teaching studios kids actually get to use.
Programs
- ArtVenture Summer Camp (5-14) - 10-week program with morning, afternoon, and extended-day options
- Spring Break ArtVenture - one-week camp with morning, afternoon, and full-day choices
- Art After School (6-14) - weekly classes in stained glass, darkroom photography, screenprinting, and clay
- Art League for Teens (15-18) - immersive summer week-long studio intensives
- Homeschool Program - daytime classes for homeschooled youth
What's Included
All studio supplies and material fees are bundled into registration. Kids work with professional equipment - kilns, presses, darkroom gear - alongside working artists. Bring close-toed shoes, messy clothes, water, and snacks.
Experience
Classes meet inside a purpose-built community art facility open daily 9am-9pm, so families can pair drop-off with gallery visits or studio events. Instructors are practicing artists rather than rotating volunteers, and the building's scale lets each medium have its own dedicated room.
