About

Falconry-Style Flight Demos Outside Charleston

The Avian Conservation Center / Center for Birds of Prey is a 152-acre raptor sanctuary and rehab hospital. About 50 species of hawks, owls, eagles, vultures, falcons, and kites live on aviary trails plus an outdoor flight amphitheater.

What Kids Can Do

Flight Demonstrations show raptors flown untethered over the amphitheater - kids sit close as falcons and hawks fly inches overhead. Owls in Flight is a separate dedicated owl demo. Guided aviary tours let kids meet rescued bald eagles, vultures, and barn owls perched at eye level [marked: flight demos run Thursday-Saturday only - confirm schedule before driving up].

What's Included

Admission covers Flight Demonstration (10:30am), guided aviary walking tour (1:30pm), and Owls in Flight (2pm). Kids under 3 free with paid adult. Educational programs and homeschool sessions bookable separately.

Experience

Plan 3 hours to catch all three demos. About 22 miles north of downtown Charleston on Highway 17 toward Awendaw. Mostly outdoor - bring water, sun protection, closed-toe shoes for aviary trails. Open Thursday-Saturday 10am-4pm only.
