About
Professional Theatre at the University of Tennessee
Clarence Brown Theatre is the professional regional theatre in residence at the University of Tennessee, running a season of mainstage productions plus a community-open summer acting workshop for high schoolers and rising college freshmen.
CBT Acting Workshop
A two-week summer intensive open to grades 9-12 and rising college freshmen, taught by UT Theatre Distinguished Lecturers and supported by MFA acting candidates. Programs include:
- Basic acting technique
- Voice training
- Musical theatre fundamentals
- Movement and improvisation
- College audition coaching
- Final showcase at the Jenny Boyd Theatre
What's Included
- Mon-Fri 9am-4pm for two weeks (early July)
- Cohort of 22 participants, first-come-first-served
- Daily required attendance
- Instruction from working theatre artists in residence
Experience
The workshop sits between high-school theatre club and conservatory training, and the college-audition coaching makes it especially valuable for rising seniors aiming at BFA programs. Performance experience is not required, but the daily-attendance bar signals a serious commitment for the two weeks.
