District Clay Center
About
DC's largest teaching clay studio
District Clay Center sits in a converted warehouse in Northeast DC - minutes from Brookland, Union Market, and Catholic University. The space is bigger than most East Coast pottery studios, with multiple wheel rooms, hand-building tables, a raku firing pit, and its own kiln yard.
Kids and teen classes
Programming runs alongside the adult track, with dedicated kids/teens sessions and summer offerings. Classes include:
- Kids & teens pottery classes (10-week sessions)
- Teen Intensives (ages 12-18)
- Family fun events (no experience required)
- One-shot workshops (~$85 for 2 hours)
- Private birthday parties
- Raku firing workshops
- Summer camps
What's Included
- All clay and studio tools provided
- Glazes and firing included in tuition
- Working potters as instructors
- Access to wheels, slab rollers, kilns
- Finished pieces go home after firing
Experience
The scale alone makes it different from most East Coast clay studios - kids aren't squeezed around one kiln. Good fit for families who want a legit pottery experience rather than a one-off paint-your-pot session.
