Flower City Arts Center
About
Flower City Arts Center is Rochester's community arts hub on Monroe Avenue, with a youth program that runs from preschool clay through teen camps in ceramics, printmaking, and photography.
Programs
- Mudslingers - intro pottery for elementary kids on the wheel and slab
- Mythical Clay Creatures - hand-building ceramics with story prompts
- Inky Fingers: My First Print - linocut and monoprint basics
- Smush and Smash - sensory clay and mixed-media for the youngest students
- Young Artist Camp - week-long summer day camps across mediums
What's Included
Classes provide all materials, including 20 pounds of clay per ceramics student plus glazes and kiln firings. Photo classes get darkroom time and chemistry. Print classes include plates and inks.
Experience
The center occupies a renovated building on Monroe Avenue with dedicated ceramics, printmaking, and photo studios under one roof, so kids can sample mediums across a single summer. Mixed youth-adult enrollment keeps the building active most evenings, which means kids see practicing artists at work.
