Martial Arts America - Ankeny

Martial Arts America is a traditional Korean Taekwondo dojang at 621 S Ankeny Boulevard, run by Grand Master Bob Sledge - the Owner and Chief Instructor since taking over leadership of the school in 2014. The school teaches traditional Korean TKD as it was originally taught by Grand Master Woojin Jung, an established lineage that traces back to the classic mid-20th-century Korean taekwondo masters - and the curriculum honors that lineage with a focus on classical forms, kicking precision, and the discipline of patient long-term practice rather than belt-mill speed promotions. The instructor staff includes black belts Master Brewer and Mrs. Moritz alongside GM Sledge, giving students multiple voices and stylistic perspectives across the week. The kids program is structured around 10 classes per week, plus a dedicated brown-and-black belt class, a forms class, and an extra morning class during summer for families with school-free schedules. Tuition starts at $30 per month with family rates available - extremely accessible pricing relative to most commercial dojangs. The youth syllabus covers stances and basics, the Taegeuk poomsae forms, kicking combinations across the full range from front and roundhouse through spinning and jumping variations, one-step and structured sparring, and the five tenets of taekwondo (courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, indomitable spirit) as the cultural foundation.
