Morningside Nature Center
About
278 Acres of Longleaf Pine and 1870s Living History Farm
Morningside Nature Center protects 278 acres of restored longleaf pine, sandhill, and hardwood hammock alongside an 1870s Living History Farm with a real 1840s homestead cabin, board-and-batten kitchen, barn, schoolhouse, and heirloom-breed farm animals.
What Kids Can Do
Six miles of trails wind through pine flatwoods and cypress domes - great for short family hikes. The Living History Farm hosts costumed interpreters first Saturdays September-May who demonstrate 1870 farm life - butter churning, hearth cooking, blacksmithing, animal care. Kids can meet heirloom chickens, sheep, and oxen any open day. The nature center has live native reptile and amphibian displays plus hands-on prairie/sandhill exhibits [marked: living history demonstrations only first Saturdays Sept-May - check city calendar].
