Otay Valley Regional Park
About
11-Mile River Park Connecting Three Cities
Otay Valley Regional Park is an 11-mile multi-jurisdictional park along the Otay River - jointly managed by Chula Vista, San Diego, and County of San Diego. Connects from San Diego Bay east to Lower Otay Reservoir through riparian forest, marsh, and chaparral.
What Kids Can Do
The Chula Vista east trailhead at 2500 Main St gives access to the central park area - flat dirt trails along the river. Birds along the wetland include great blue herons, snowy egrets, and occasional bald eagles. Mountain bike trails for older kids and teens. Ranger Station has trail maps and seasonal interpretive program info. River-bottom sandbar lets kids splash on hot days [marked: bring lots of water in summer - little shade past the trailhead, and Chula Vista temps can hit 100+ in August].
What's Included
Free day-use. Ranger Station has interpretive programs and group hikes - bookable through County of SD parks office.
