Ancestral-Skills Youth Nature Program in North Portland
Rewild Portland is a nonprofit teaching ancestral and primitive skills through nature immersion. Their youth homeschool program meets at MudHut Permaculture Haus in St. Johns and Kelley Point Park.
Programs
Weekly outdoor homeschool days plus adult workshops and summer camps. Programs include:
- Rewild Youth Homeschool (ages 5–11): Thursday Hearth Day and/or Friday Forest Day
- Week-long summer youth camps
- Family nature events
- Primitive skills workshops (fire-making, cordage, foraging)
What's Included
- Mentors skilled in ancestral crafts and nature literacy
- Rotating locations: MudHut permaculture site + Kelley Point Park riverfront
- Hands-on skills: fire by friction, shelter, cordage, basketry
- Weekly meetings 9:30 am – 3:00 pm
- Small group ratios
Experience
For kids who want to learn how humans lived in place for millennia — tracking, plant knowledge, primitive tools. Builds confidence, mentorship bonds, and practical resilience.
