Rubber City Theatre
About
Akron's Resident Professional Theatre with Youth Pipeline
Rubber City Theatre is Akron's resident professional theatre company, operating out of Guzzetta Hall on the University of Akron campus. Alongside its main-season productions, the company runs structured youth programs that put kids onstage.
Theatre Institute (Ages 6-14) and Teen Takeover (Ages 13-18)
Two age-specific tracks feed into full productions. Programs include:
- Theatre Institute for ages 6-14, with mounted productions (recent: Addams Family: Young at Part)
- Teen Takeover for ages 13-18 focused on directing, designing, and acting under the Producing Director
- Secondary venue at Cultural Center in Canton-Stark County for Theatre Institute sessions
What's Included
- Stage time at Guzzetta Hall on a working professional theatre's main space
- Production credit on the company's annual lineup
- Direct mentorship from the Producing Director on the Teen Takeover track
Experience
The pipeline structure (Institute → Teen Takeover → company productions) suits kids who want to build over years inside one organization rather than rotating across short camps. The university venue gives the program a working-arts feel rather than a hobbyist setting.
