Synapse Jiu Jitsu in Bel-Red
Synapse Jiu Jitsu sits on NE 20th Street in the Bel-Red corridor of Bellevue, a family-friendly martial arts school built around modern, high-quality BJJ instruction for all ages and abilities. The Bel-Red location gives easy access from downtown Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, and the SR-520 commuter corridor.
Kids Jiu Jitsu Programs
The kids curriculum is split into three brain-themed age tiers, scaling complexity from play-based fundamentals through teen competition prep. Programs include:
- Dendrons, ages 5-7 (play-based learning with carefully structured grappling games, twice-weekly)
- Axons, ages 8-12 (introduces core BJJ concepts more directly plus tournament rules and strategy)
- Neurons, ages 13-17 (dedicated teen program with technique refinement, live sparring, and competition prep)
- Adult BJJ (full curriculum for parents on the same schedule)
What's Included
- Three-tier kids program with hard age cuts, no mixed-age classes
- Coach Nicolas as named point of contact for progression questions
- Pathway from preschool tier through dedicated teen program
- Supportive community framing, family-friendly atmosphere
Experience
The Dendrons play-based intro is well-matched to 5-to-7-year-olds who would lose interest in straight technical drilling. By Neurons (teens) the program is essentially adult-tempo BJJ with age-appropriate sparring intensity, so kids who start young have a 10-plus year on-ramp. Pattern suits Bellevue families that want long-term, technical BJJ training without the strict-traditional dojo atmosphere.
