About
Tony-Winning Professional Theater with Youth Education
Yale Repertory Theatre is the Tony Award-winning regional theater connected to the Yale School of Drama, running two youth education initiatives that pair New Haven students with Yale graduate-level mentors.
Two Youth Education Tracks
Dwight/Edgewood serves middle schoolers with hands-on playwriting work, while WILL POWER! brings high schoolers into the audience for live professional theater. Programs include:
- Dwight/Edgewood Project (middle school) - intensive four-week playwriting program with Geffen School student mentors
- WILL POWER! (high school) - subsidized tickets to Yale Rep productions, study guides, post-performance discussions
- Original-play public performances by Dwight/Edgewood participants
- Free workshops and professional development for educators
What's Included
- Working with Yale School of Drama graduate students as mentors
- Public performance of student-written original plays
- Curricular support resources for teachers
- Subsidized professional theater access for high school students
Experience
The pairing model is the differentiator - middle school students draft plays alongside Yale graduate students for four weeks, then see their work performed. That's a level of mentorship most regional youth programs can't approach. WILL POWER! gives high schoolers professional theater access at a price their schools can actually afford.
