Education Arm of the Tony-Winning Berkeley Rep
The Berkeley Rep School of Theatre is the education arm of Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the regional company that has won the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. The school engages over 20,000 students annually with classes and camps for grades 1-12 taught by professional actors and directors.
Grade-Based Camp and Intensive Programs
Programming splits cleanly between elementary play-creation and middle/high school conservatory-style intensives. Programs include:
- Spring Break Theatre Camp: Play Creation (grades 1-5)
- Summer Theatre Camp: Play Creation (grades 1-5, four sessions)
- Summer Theatre Intensive (grades 6-8 and 9-12)
- Summer Filmmaking Intensive
- Summer Musical Theatre Intensive: The Broadway Experience
- Year-round youth and teen classes

Experience
The combination of a Tony-winning regional theatre context plus dedicated youth programming is rare - kids get classroom training in the same complex where major commercial productions are mounted. The grade-1-5 play-creation track is unusually devised-theatre-focused for an elementary program.
