Chautauqua Park
About
Boulder's Flatiron Front-Door Park
Chautauqua Park sits at the foot of the Flatirons - 80 acres of grassy meadow plus access to 48 miles of OSMP trails. Established 1898 as a National Historic Landmark, it's Boulder's most iconic family-friendly mountain park.
What Kids Can Do
The Chautauqua Meadow has shaded picnic spots and a nature-inspired playground at the base. Bluebell-Baird Trail is the easiest family hike (1.5 miles flat, stroller-friendly first half). Older kids can tackle the steep Royal Arch hike or scramble the First Flatiron base. Ranger Cottage Visitor Center has hands-on flora/fauna displays and Junior Ranger booklets [marked: summer weekends require parking reservation - free shuttle from downtown Park-to-Park lot].
What's Included
Free day-use. Ranger Cottage open seasonally. Chautauqua Auditorium and Dining Hall priced separately. Cottage rentals through Colorado Chautauqua Association.
Experience
Plan 1-4 hours. Mostly outdoor with shaded meadow. Bring water, sun protection, layers (Flatirons weather flips fast). Stroller-friendly meadow and lower trails. Limited parking - arrive before 9am summer weekends or shuttle in.
