Wonderland Lake Park
About
North Boulder's Easiest Family Loop With Mountain Views
Wonderland Lake is a 35-acre reservoir on Boulder's north edge with a stroller-friendly 1.5-mile loop around the lake and direct OSMP access to Foothills Community Park next door. Best easy family hike in Boulder with the Front Range as backdrop.
What Kids Can Do
The lake loop trail is flat crushed gravel - perfect first-hike for toddlers in jogging strollers. Kids spot turtles sunning on logs, great blue herons hunting in the cattails, and prairie dogs in burrow colonies along the trail. Wonderland Lake Playground at the south end has natural-material climbing structures. Adjacent Foothills Community Park adds a small zipline, musical play instruments, and another playground [marked: parking lot only 20 spaces - on summer weekends park up Poplar Ave and walk in].
What's Included
Free day-use. No facilities at the lake itself - restrooms at Foothills Community Park.
Experience
Plan 1-2 hours for full loop plus play. Almost entirely outdoor on flat trails. Stroller-friendly throughout. About 3 miles north of downtown Boulder. Limited parking - arrive early.
