Descanso Gardens covers 150 acres of themed botanical gardens in La Cañada Flintridge - 8 minutes north of Pasadena. Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Ancient Forest of native California oaks, Camellia Forest, and dozens of seasonal displays.
What Kids Can Do
The Enchanted Railroad - a 1/8th-scale diesel train - takes kids on rides through scenic garden sections (separate ticket). Children's Garden has tunnels, hidden paths, and Wonderland-themed features. The Oak Forest's 700-year-old California live oaks form a canopy kids can walk under. Bird Observation Station and Wildlife Pond for spotting ducks, herons, and turtles. Seasonal events include Cherry Blossom Festival (March), Enchanted Forest of Light (November-January) [marked: Enchanted Railroad runs Sat-Sun only - separate $3 ticket].
