El Paso Zoo
About
Borderland Zoo on the Rio Grande
El Paso Zoo is a 35-acre municipal zoo east of downtown, home to more than 200 species in habitats themed by continent - Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Chihuahuan Desert. The El Paso Zoo Society runs the education and camp programs.
Zoo Camp & Education
Camps run summer and winter break weeks, with daily themes and behind-the-scenes encounters. Programs include:
- Summer Zoo Camp (ages 6-10)
- Winter Zoo Camp
- Conservation-based lesson plans
- Behind-the-scenes tours
- School outreach
- Birthday parties and field trips
What's Included
- Camp-only access to keeper talks and exclusive habitats
- Educator-led activities and biofact handling
- Materials for hands-on conservation lessons
Experience
Mostly outdoor - El Paso is desert, so early-morning and shaded program times are standard. Kids meet endangered species, learn about Chihuahuan Desert wildlife, and walk away with real conservation literacy, not just souvenir photos.
