Halyburton Park
About
58-Acre Sandhill Nature Preserve
Halyburton Park protects 58 acres of rare coastal sandhill habitat - 70% kept undeveloped to preserve the longleaf pine and turkey oak ecosystem rarely seen elsewhere in the coastal Carolinas. Nature center, fitness trail, and 1.3-mile walking-birding loop anchor the park.
What Kids Can Do
The 1.3-mile interpretive loop has signs identifying plants, birds, and reptiles - kids can spot Carolina anoles, painted buntings, and woodpeckers. Event Center hosts year-round nature programs including Nature Tots toddler classes, after-school nature clubs, and summer camps. Playground at the entrance for younger siblings. The park also runs Outdoor Adventure summer camps and Junior Naturalist programs [marked: Event Center programs require advance registration - check city parks calendar].
