Locust Street Art
About
Locust Street Art runs free, no-cost art classes for Buffalo kids in a community studio that's been serving the East Side since the 1950s.
Programs
- Children's Drawing & Painting - foundational mark-making and color exercises
- Hand Built Ceramics - pinch, coil, and slab clay projects
- Black & White Film and Digital Photography - shooting and darkroom basics
- Hand Drawn and Stop Motion Animation - flipbooks through frame-by-frame stop motion
- Open studio time for ongoing student projects
What's Included
Every class is free, and supplies are provided - paper, paint, clay, film, and animation tools all covered. No registration fee, no materials charge.
Experience
The center keeps a student-led, drop-in feel rather than rigid weekly cohorts, so kids can explore mediums at their own pace. The mission has stayed consistent for decades: removing cost as a barrier to art education in Buffalo's neighborhoods.
