16-Mile MTB Trail System in Suburban Garland
Rowlett Creek Preserve is a 200-acre Garland city natural area with one of the largest mountain bike trail systems in DFW - 16 miles of staked single-track in 14 connected loops that mix-and-match from 1 to 16 miles.
What Kids Can Do
The trail system is the marquee draw for older kids and teens learning to mountain bike - clockwise-direction loops graded easy through advanced. Beginner Loop A is suitable for kids 6+ on bikes. Picnic pavilion and restrooms at the trailhead. The natural area also has wildlife viewing - deer, foxes, hawks, and herons along the creek. Walking-only trails parallel for non-biking families [marked: bike helmets required - park rangers turn away kids without helmets].

Free day-use of all 16 miles of MTB trails plus walking-only paths. Bring your own bike and helmet - no on-site rental. Picnic pavilion reservable through Garland Parks.
Experience
Plan 1-4 hours depending on loop choice. Almost entirely outdoor on natural-surface trails - bring water, sun protection, sturdy bike helmets, gloves. About 6 miles north of downtown Garland near Firewheel. Free on-site parking. Open daily 6am-10pm.
