Wilmington's Founding Community Theatre Youth Program
Thalian Association Community Theatre is the Official Community Theater of North Carolina, founded in 1788. Its Youth Theatre program (established 1979) and TACT Academy run year-round classes plus five youth productions a year at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center.
TACT Academy Classes
Spring and Fall sessions cover acting, singing, dancing, and stagecraft for ages 3 to 18. Programs include:
- TACT Tots (ages 3-5) and Colorful Characters (5-8)
- Broadway Mania and Disney Mash-Up (6-8)
- Creative Drama and Prop Shop Adventures (8-12)
- Gotta' Sing Gotta' Dance and Rising Stars (8-12)
- Musical Comedy and Characters, Triple Threat, Fundamentals of Acting (9+ / 10+ / 11+)
What's Included
- Showcase performances at the end of each session
- Tuition $165 per session plus $10 registration, with scholarships available
- Studio classroom space in the Hannah Block Community Arts Center
Experience
Auditions for the main youth productions are open to performers ages 7 through 18, giving students a path from intro classes to full stage shows. The Community Theatre's 230+ year arts-education mission anchors the program.
